HA GIANG IN MY HEART
A border province and official Frontier Area, Ha Giang lies in the remote far northern region of the country. To visit this province is to journey back in time and encounter some of Vietnam’s most rugged and grand landscapes. Ha Giang is best experienced as a road trip on two wheels, soaking up the majesty of the landscape and the atmosphere of the remote towns and minority villages. Like Sapa, the most renowned attraction of Ha Giang is the many grandiose mountains. The most famous rocky area of Ha Giang is Dong Van Rock Plateau, which is recognized by UNESCO as one of 77 geological parks in the world. Lung Cu Hamlet lying inside Dong Van Rock Plateau is another indispensible destination as it marks the very northern tip of Vietnam by Lung Cu Flag Tower on Dragon Mountain.
Dong Van Karst Plateau Georpark includes administrative border line of ha Giang 4 high – land districts ( Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Dong Van, Meo Vac ) with total area of over 2,356 Km2 and average height of 1400n from sea level. Dong Van karst Plateau remains many special, tpical geological values, record geological values, records geological development history over millions of year. Until now, 139 geological relics are found in Dong Van, of which 15 International relics, 68 National relics and 56 provincial relics. In different aged limestone sediment, many fossils are found by paleontologists belongs to 19 different groups : roll hand, bottom wall coral, 4 – ray coral, layer hole, trilobite, ancient fish, orifice worm, hat shield, hat teeth, axe leg, abdomen leg, head leg, moss animal, sea lily, hard shield, ancient crustacean, aquatic plant, ancient seaweed and chitinozoa. These fossils help scientists to complete development diagram of Dong Van Karst Plateau Global Geopark.
Besides mighty natural landscape, this is also the place of special cultural values of 17 ethnic groups. Each of them has their own special cultural features expressed by their traditional festivals such as Dao people’s Ranking festival; Mong people’s Gau Tao festival….
On October 3rd, 2010 Dong Van Karst Plateau Geopark was confirmed as an official member of Global Geopark Network ( GGN) by Global Geopark Network Consulting Committee. Therefore, Dong Van Karst Plateau is the first Geopark of Vietnam and the second of South East Asia.
